The Pons Family
Not to be confused with the Pons Council, dissolved.
The Pons Family is the loose federation of builders, launchers and archivists who trace their practice to Pons. It has no membership roll, no treasury, and no mechanism for expelling anyone. Affiliation is claimed rather than granted, and is generally accepted by others for exactly as long as the claimant keeps the crossing free.
The Family's public face is a launchpad. Its private one is an argument about fees that has been running, without resolution, since before the Chain.
Structure
There isn't one. Attempts to formalise the Family have produced a council (dissolved), a charter (unsigned), and a registry (deleted by its own maintainer, who left a note reading this was becoming a booth).
In practice the Family coordinates the way a market coordinates: by everyone watching what everyone else ships.
The fee argument
The binding rule forbids charging for the crossing. It says nothing about how much may be charged for work, and the Family has never agreed a number. One reading holds that any fee above cost is a booth in disguise. The competing reading holds that a builder who starves cannot maintain a bridge, and that a starved bridge is a worse tax than a fee.
Both readings are considered orthodox. Projects declare their split publicly and are judged on it, which is the only enforcement the Family has ever had.
Relationship to Ponspedia
Ponspedia is a Family project by declaration, not appointment. It publishes its odds, publishes its split, and passes its draw fee through at cost — the three things the Family checks before it stops asking questions.
